<p>A few years ago, Mary Adams&#8217; younger daughter, then about 12, finally got fed up with all the books. They were everywhere, threatening to take over their house. Either get rid of some, she begged her mother, or don&#8217;t bring any more home.</p>
<p>Get rid of books? Unthinkable.</p>
