Book for Sale: A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle

New Earth Book Cover texturebookstore.com

Although I liked this book, if you’ve never read anything by Eckhart Tolle I would suggest reading The Power of Now first, or instead. A New Earth expands on the ideas in that book. From the back cover:

Tolle describes how our our attachment to the ego creates the dysfunction that leads to anger, jealousy, and unhappiness, and shows the reader how to awaken to a new state of consciousness and follow the path to a truly fulfilling existence.

Book for Sale: Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe

Things Fall Apart texturebookstore.com

from the back cover:
Chinua Achebe’s first novel portrays the collision of African and European cultures in people’s lives. Okonkwo, a great man in Igbo traditional society, cannot adapt to the profound changes brought about by British Colonial rule. Yet, as in classic tragedy, Okonkwo’s downfall results from his own character as well as from external forces.

This is a pretty good story, and this edition includes essays maps, illustrations, and reference material. You can buy it here.

Old Books Love

Maine Vacation 2009

In the cabin at our vacation was a shelf of old books that just fascinated me. I read quite a few of them while we were there. Old books are so amazing; they are like little time capsules. I’m going to scout around for more old books for Texture because they are a treasure.

Help Save Ohio’s Libraries

From the Cuyahoga Libraries website:

Governor Strickland’s proposed budget will cut public library funding by 50 percent! This drastic cut will devastate library services across Ohio.

During these tough economic times people are turning to their public libraries more than ever for services like career counseling, computer training, Internet access, financial literacy and health information. Let your legislators know how much the library means to you, your family, your neighbors and friends. The time to act is NOW.
Legislators will vote on the budget in just days so please contact your legislators today!

Contact your legislator! Their email is listed, just send them an email, it’s that simple and easy. Think about what libraries mean to you and your community.

Pushing Back Re-opening…AGAIN

I have to push back the opening of Texture yet another month. I’m kinda depressed about it, I want so much to just work at my bookstore, but unless and until I can get some investors/angels/loans I will have to work another job. I’ve been talking to some other small business owners and quite are few are feeling the pinch of the economy and working an outside job, even if only part-time, rather than close their doors. Plenty of people do this, most notable immigrants who come to the states and work multiple jobs while growing a business. I need to suck it up and do what I have to do, because I am not giving up on my dream. Re-opening July 18th! stay tuned for photos and updates.

Inclement Weather

Canceling the sale today, I figure if I can’t get out of my driveway probably no one else can get there anyway. It’s too early to go ask my neighbors to use their snow blower, but in a bit my husband and sons will get up and clear the driveway so we can get out. The forecast was close to 10 inches yesterday but I don’t think we got that much, it’s more like 7-8 inches. Driving home yesterday was a nightmare, but the snow plows were out full force. I’m hoping to get the book store by afternoon if conditions aren’t too bad.
