About Texture Bookstore

Books for Texture

So I shut down Texture to get it together for re-launch opening in the winter, in the meantime adding books to online catalog on Amazon. Here’s a few adding today, will post a few every day. Re-opening info coming soon also! all photos/pics mine unless otherwise credited.

Texture Bookstore is a used bookstore located in Elyria, Ohio. It is owned and managed by me, Trula. Having my own bookstore is a goal I have been working on for 3 years. I am a writer and avid reader and I LOVE books. I have a bachelor’s of science in business administration and have been running my own indie publishing company since August 2000, so this is a natural extension for me.

I am very committed to independent publishing and the DIY ethic so I will stock such items from other indie producers in my store. In addition to general used books, Texture will also stock independently produced magazines, artwork, crafts, clothing, bags, and more.

I need to shut down Texture for a while and get it together, totally re-vamp things. I’m going to re-open again on January 9th! in the meantime Texture Bookstore will only be open online.

2009 Goals for Texture Bookstore

I’m a firm believer in manifesting dreams and I know before I can make big moves with Texture I have to name what I want:

-Make Texture a community hub where people buy & sell books
-Open a 2nd location closer to where I live 2010
-Open a 3rd location in Lorain in 2011
-Hire employees, I need help

  1. I noticed in your blog that one of your goals is to hire employees. If that is the case, I am interested in applying for full-time employment. I am a 27-year-old black female who currently lives in North Carolina, but would like to relocate to Ohio. I am a voracious reader and read about 2 books a month. Some of my favorite authors are William Faulkner, Toni Morrison, Richard Wright, James Baldwin, bell hooks, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Gilles Deleuze, Ralph Ellison. My educational background includes a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology (Appalachian State) and a Master of Arts degree in sociology (UNCG). I would love to write a book one day and working at a bookstore would really nurture that goal as well as provide an enjoyable career. Please feel free to contact me if you are still looking for employees and/or you need more information from me.

  2. Thank you so much for your interest. At this time I am looking to hire part-time only and probably not until fall at the earliest. There are other bookstores in Ohio that are hiring for full-time; the chain stores such as Barnes & Nobel always seem to be hiring for full-time and they offer benefits as well, so I would suggest filling out an application on their site. It’s great that you want to write a book, but please don’t wait on a job at a bookstore to get started on that goal! You can do it, get started, today.

  3. Hi Trula,

I commend you on your progress and efforts. My fiance and I would like to open an independant book store. Could you please offer some advise. We dont know where to begin. Congratulations!!!

  4. To begin, figure out how much you can afford to spend on rent. Then look in the paper and also drive around the area you want to have your store in to look for spaces for rent or lease. Then call the landlord to arrange to see the space. If you like it, let them know, and put your deposit down. You can get books from a lot of sources but I like garage sales, thrift stores, estate sales, places like that.
