I came across your blog after googling "independent bookstores" and linking to 43 things. I am also in the process of opening my first bookstore (primarily new books), and know what you mean about the haters who say you won't make any money. They are SO missing the point. Money is not the issue. I love books, and can't imagine a better job than working in a place where the people (customers and employees) share that same love. I also think indie bookstores can make a significant contribution to a neighborhood and community in terms of culture and thought. Don't let anyone discourage you. Good luck!!
